August 9th FIRE UPDATE:

Kevin (our BLE Parks liason) has been in contact with the Emergency program director for the SLRD. All Wildfire information flows through him. We have given him a list of contacts for our board as well as GIS spatial data regarding the property to ensure open communication and co-operation if they need to access BLE to help with their efforts.

The fire at the north end of the lake grew substantially overnight and is out of control.

As Marc pointed out in his post, there are many factors working in our favor, but we thought it would be prudent to notify everyone that the chances of an evacuation alert are very real possibility and even an evacuation order could happen if conditions were to take a significant turn for the worse.

The most important thing we can do is start to prepare now so we are ready if we are to get an evacuation alert or order. Fortunately, we have had our firesmart assessments done recently and have lots of knowledge of things we can do to best prepare for a fire.

In Pemberton evacuation preparedness scenarios, people are informed that when told to leave they will have 4 hours to get ready and get out the door, so having your property ready for a fire – removing combustibles, propane and fuel canisters as well as fire proofing decks and other beforehand is key.

Kevin will be in contact with the SLRD and we will be posting updates whenever we get new information. Please monitor our Facebook pages for updates. We are also hoping to get updates posted on the website – will keep you posted if/when that goes live.
